`Vitreous Retina

Sometimes the symptoms can be temporary and improve over time (for example, vitreous detachments due to age). In other cases, systemic or intraocular treatment is needed. Laser photocoagulation can also treat retinal tears in the absence of retinal detachment.

Finally, vitrectomy and scleral surgery or pneumatic retinopexy can be used to resolve retinal detachments.

Vitrectomy consists of a small incision surgery at the level of the vitreous, using specially developed materials for this technique. It can often be performed on an outpatient basis and with local anesthesia, currently with good results in many cases.
